Gallery of P1 racers tearing up The Solent

The August bank holiday saw the calm waters of The Solent being ripped up by powerboats sporting 4000hp, big block engines. Some of the noisiest and most powerful Marathon Class powerboats took part in the race, with the fastest boats completing the 182 mile course at an average of 90mph.

The boats started in a high winds and a rolling swell, pounding there way to the first mark, five miles out, with only 14 of of the 17 competitors making it. Only eight boats finished the race, won by the1400hp 37ft monohull Mircolink PC Fury. Another three races were run throughout the day, one being the Cowes – Poole – Cowes General, the P1 250 class and P1 150 Class.
