East Cowes plans to go on display in public exhibit

Solent Gateways will showcase ambitious plans for the future of East Cowes

A public exhibition to showcase a potential vision for the future of East Cowes will be running this week, it has been announced.

The exhibit, called Solent Gateways, will take place at three venues across the town from 28 November to 5 December.

As part of a £15million redevelopment plan, the exhibit will explain the plans for a new floating bridge and a new “public realm” in the town centre.

A further £15million has been pledged by ferry operators Red Funnel, including an upgraded fleet and a new ferry terminal at Trafalgar Dock and East Cowes.

In a statement, Cowes Harbour Commission said: “This important Solent Gateways scheme will provide a strong platform for economic growth in Southampton and on the Island.

“By providing critical infrastructure, it facilitates improvements in connectivity across the Solent, while enabling stalled regeneration projects to come to fruition.”

Solent Gateways, which is a partnership between the Homes and Communities Agency, Isle of Wight Council, Red Funnel, and Southampton City Council, follows an online survey that Cowes Harbour Commission set up last month.

The dates and locations of the Solent Gateways exhibition are as follows:

  • Friday 28 November: East Cowes Town Hall (1pm-5pm)
  • Saturday 29 November: East Cowes Heritage Centre (10am-4pm)
  • Monday 1 – Friday 5 December: Waitrose, East Cowes
