Finn Sami Selio takes Formula 1 championship

American Jay Price finishes fourth in race and second in series

Finnish driver Sami Selio (pictured) waltzed into second place with less than ten laps to go in the final round of this year’s F1H2O powerboat championship in Sharjah on Friday.

The result gave him his second world title, outscoring American Jay Price of the Qatar Team 94-92 for the closest outcome of the series since 2000.

For Selio, it was the second time in the last four years that he captured the top rung in the championship, having won it in 2007. Price had to settle for fourth, costing him a place as runner-up.

“It was a great day for the team and everyone involved in our programme this season,” said Selio.

“From Alex our engine builder in Canada to our multinational crew to my teammate who did a super job this season, I will long look back at this one as one of my proudest moments.”
