Is it a racing car? No, it’s a new motoryacht from Heesen

One boatowner lets his infatuation for racing cars cross over into his boating life

One of the most well-known racing car colour schemes has been chosen for a new motoryacht delivered by Dutch builder Heesen Yachts.

Aurelia is finished in the iconic orange and pastel blue Gulf Racing colours, which adorned such classics as Le Mans-winning Ford GT40s, while its hull number, 10, is displayed in the form of a race number.

Not content with choosing Gulf colours for the aluminium boat, the owner’s passion extends to using the same colour scheme and number for the 14ft Castoldi tender. And the guest cabins are named after and inspired by racing car designers Bertone (orange Lamborghini), Pininfarina(red Ferrari), and Zagato (green Aston Martin).

Even the name Aurelia has racing connections, being a tribute to the first ever GT Lancia Aurelia. The boat, which has a top speed of 30 knots, will be on show at the Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes in September.
