The Mumbles RNLI crewmember proposes on helicopter

A crewmember at The Mumbles RNLI used his shift on the rescue helicopter to pop the question to his girlfriend

Love is in the air at The Mumbles RNLI after a romantic crewmember proposed to his girlfriend on board a rescue helicopter.

Josh Stewart was due to winch his girlfriend Morwenna Chapman from a Tamar-class lifeboat onto a chopper as part of a training exercise in Swansea Bay.

But when the fellow volunteer reached the top of the line, she found Josh in the doorway with an engagement ring in his hand.

The opportunity for romance was too good to resist, Josh explained: “I’d been thinking about asking her to marry me for a while and when I got the date for our helicopter exercise I had to give it a go.”

Thankfully for Josh, Morwenna said yes, bringing a happy ending to what is believed to be the world’s first proposal on board a rescue helicopter.

Later Morwenna spoke of her surprise: “I was thinking to myself when I was being winched up what an amazing adrenaline rush it was and that nothing could top this, and then Josh went and popped the question, fantastic.”
