Zapcats in Southsea this w/e

Brave the rain to check out the thrills and spills!

Southsea residents may be getting a rude awakening this Saturday and Sunday as the Zapcat fleet roars into town.

Rounds three and four of the 2007 Zapcat National Championship will see up to 40 of the twin-hulled inflatables powering round a circuit at Speaker’s Corner, off Clarence Esplanade, at speeds of around 50kph.

Southsea’s steeply-shelving pebble beach gives spectators a fantastic chance to get close to the action. The boats can race close to the shore and the highly-manoeuvrable Zapcats always provide an exciting spectacle.

Practice sessions start at 11am on both Saturday and Sunday, with the first of the 16 heats on each day beginning at midday.
