The unsettled weather took a tragic twist on Tuesday evening after a 17-year-old boy died when he became trapped by flood water in Oxfordshire.

Emergency crews battled in vain to save Max Sullivan-Webb after he became trapped in a culvert in Witney on Tuesday evening during flash flooding, which saw almost a month’s rainfall hit the area in a day.

Elsewhere the Environment Agency currently has 32 areas on flood watch and four flood warnings in force across the UK: in Newport Pagnell, on the River Great Ouse from Brackley to Thornborough and from Thornborough to Newport Pagnell and on the River Thames and its tributaries from Thames to Dorchester.
