New Windy 31 Zonda

The Windy 31 Zonda will be launched in the spring

The new 31 Zonda with a deep-vee hull, sterndrives and up to 440hp courtesey of Volvo Penta will be launched by Windy Boats in the spring.

Windy CEO Knut Heiberg-Andersen sums up their ambitions for the new boat neatly, he says: “The Zonda is a low-profile weekender concept with no hardtop, no radar arch – just a great hull and plenty of horsepower. She’s sleek, functional and sexy.”

The classical shape with the lines tapering towards the water at the stern is pure Windy but the funky hull windows add a modern twist.

The cockpit has lounging space aplenty and with no radar arch is totally open to the elements but a folding canopy can provide shelter if needed.

Windy say the helm position is ‘performance-orientated’ and the three snug helm seats and a decent slab of chart table suggest they’re right on the money.

Accommodation is best suited to a cruising couple, there’s a generous double berth in the bow with an adjoining heads unit and a compact galley to make drinks and light meals.

The hull, designed by renowned naval architect Hans Jorgen Johnsen, has a deadrise of 24 degrees and promises to endow the 31 Zonda with fearsome wave tackling properties.

Windy say the Zonda name harks from a warm, dry wind in the Andes mountain range called the viente zonda but Heiberg-Andersen is quick to point out that any association with the Pagani Zonda, a wildly exotic super car, is more than a coincidence. He says: “If this is a boat that puts owners in mind of a certain rare and desirable sports car, then that’s hardly surprising.”
