Venture 14: They’ve done it!

The Venture 14 has made it to Monaco after their 2,500-mile trip

Sixteen days and 2,500 miles after they left St.Katharine Docks the four teams in the Venture 14 fleet tied up at the Yacht Club de Monaco.

We last left them as the fleet had made it to the Med and since then they’ve wrestled with engine issues and Spanish Customs in order to make it to the finish line.

You can read the last few blog updates from the organisers on the Go Powerboating website.

Team Grey Ghost, in their 10m Scorpion Sting, looked to be scuppered by engine gremlins on day 13 but with the help of Yanmar and an exhaust manifold that was sent to the Côte d’Azur via Bristol and Gerona, they were on the move again and could meet up with the fleet for the final leg from St.Tropez.

The teams celebrate with a swim in Monaco harbour.

Race organiser Aidan Foley says: “There was an amazing reception from the sparkling new Yacht Club de Monaco yesterday. To have all the same four boats and teams make it (just) through 16 days, over 2,500 miles and countless challenges is a testament to modern reliability and a never quit attitude from the crews.”

Yes, the race was robbed of its full potential but we must take nothing way from the commitment and achievements of the teams and organisers to rescue something from the ashes.

This is testament to the capabilities of the modern powerboat and hopefully will spark interest for another race of this ilk in the near future.
