The World Cup-winning forward was one of a host of famous names from the worlds of sport and showbusiness at the charity fundraiser, including David Seaman, Kevin Whately, Robert Powell, Pat Jennings, Ray Clemence, Michael Lynagh, Phil Greening, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Jimmy Hill and Martin Peters.

The President’s Classic golf day raised £29,000 for SPARKS, a children’s medical research charity.

The day ended with a gala dinner and auction with BBC TV’s Jill Douglas as MC and fellow SPARKS patron, Bobby Davro, providing the cabaret.

Dominic Byrne, managing director of Sunseeker Sales Group, said: “Behind all the fun there is the very serious target of raising as much money as possible for SPARKS.
