Changes planned for 40th Southampton Boat Show

Organisers make a few changes to this year's installment of the PSP Southampton Boat Show

With less than 100 days to go to the start of the 40th Southampton Boat Show, its organiser, National Boat Shows, has released details of a few changes to the 2008 event, which will run from 12-21 September.

The most noticeable difference will be a new stage and screen where the children’s playground is located, just behind the MBM stand.

Southampton City Council is currently relocating the playground from the centre of Mayflower Park out to the edge, freeing up space for more boat show attractions and exhibitors.

Alongside the new stage will be a double-decker structure to house meeting rooms and hospitality suites, while at ground level, there will be space for non-marine, lifestyle exhibitors.

Since this will be the show’s 40th birthday, the stage will feature “retro-style fashion shows, guest appearances from personalities and short films celebrating the history of the show and highlighting the last four decades of boating”, according to organisers.

Other changes planned for the show include an enlarged marina to house bigger craft, and more boats available in the always-popular Try-a-Boat feature.
