To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the international Cowes-Torquay-Cowes offshore powerboat race the British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) and Classic Offshore Powerboat Owners Club (COPOC) are holding a rally in Torquay where the first eight years of this major international race finished. There are already 41 pre registered entries including the 1961 Cowes Torquay Powerboat Race winner – Tommy Sopwith’s Thunderbolt now owned by COPOC Commodore Mike James.

It is proposed that craft depart Cowes on Wednesday August 25th and make their way to Torquay arriving mid to late afternoon. The Torquay Authorities will already have a week long celebration underway and the Classic fleet will be welcomed with a display by the Red Arrows plus a reception hosted by the Royal Torbay Yacht Club.

Boats will be on display to the public in Torquay harbour on Thursday August 26 while a second reception for rally participants will be held at the Barceló Torquay Imperial Hotel.

It is proposed the fleet heads for Cowes on Friday August 27 arriving in the evening in time to witness the start of the 50th Cowes Torquay Cowes race on Sunday August 29.
