The Navy calls the Type 45 destroyer the "most advanced warship in the world"

What the Navy claims is “the most advanced warship in the world” has been launched in Glasgow.

Thousands of people turned up to watch HMS Daring, a Type 45 destroyer, slide into the water for the first time at the Scotstoun shipyard on the Clyde.

She is part of a £5.5bn project to put a total of six Type 45s in the water, all of which are due to be launched from the Clyde.

The First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Alan West, said: “The Type 45 is a superb piece of high-technology innovation and engineering, delivering unsurpassed capability to the Royal Navy.”

Daring is due to come into full service in 2009.
