Dunkirk boat sold for £1

Historic boat sold after having sunk two years ago

Skylark IX is one of the last remaining boats to be involved in the Dunkirk rescue more than 70 years ago. The £1 price reflects the condition, as it sank in 2010 and hasn’t been moved since.

Dougie McCann, vice commodore of Leven Crusing Club, told the BBC news website, “She ferried the soldiers backwards and forwards from the beach, 150 at a time, which was 50 or 60 over her capacity.”

During Operation Dynamo, Skylark IX rescued 600 soldiers from the beaches of Dunkirk between 26 May and 4 June 1940.

A total of 900 trawlers, cruisers, steamers and Navy vessel, skippered by volunteers during World War II, as they rescued British soldiers from the beach of Dunkirk, France.
