Eastborne RNLI await a new Lifeboat

Eastbourne RNLI's new Tamar class lifeboat is only two weeks from its scheduled completion



The new Tamar class lifeboat which is only two weeks from completion was visited by coxswain Mark Sawyer, mechanic Dan Guy and operations manager Paul Metcalfe have all been to the Babcock boatyard at Plymouth, where it was built, to see the boat being tested.

The lifeboat is due to be launched on 6 February to commemorate the date on which Queen Elizabeth 11 ascended to the throne in 1952.

Training of crew will start in May, with five station mechanics attending a weeks of intensive training at the RNLI lifeboat college at Poole.

It is hoped that the vessel will be ready for action by the end of June.
