Exeter to star at ExCel

Pride of place at the London Boat Show at the ExCel Centre will go HMS Exeter.

Pride of place at the London Boat Show which starts next week at the ExCel Centre will go HMS Exeter. The Type 42 destroyer is the last serving Royal Navy ship which saw action in the Falklands War.

She replaced her sister ship Sheffield as a radar picket when the latter was sunk after being hit by an Exocet missile. Exeter shot down at least four Argentine aircraft during the conflict and remains part of the backbone of the Fleet’s anti-air warfare forces.

At 412ft in length and weighing 4,300 tons, she will be the largest vessel at the show, and will be open to visitors.
