Family aim for ‘hat-trick’

Griffith family to race round Britain for third time

Richard Griffith, together with his wife Sue, completed the Round Britain Race in 1969 and 1984, the only two previous occasions the marathon event has been staged. Now Richard together with his son Dorian are out to achieve a family hat-trick.

The race, which is one of the most challenging in the sport, starts from Portsmouth on 21 June 2008 and finishes back at the town on 30 June.

Built by Fountain Powerboats, their 40ft (12.1m) challenger is powered by two Mercury 500hp, 8 litre racing engines, has four seats and in the right conditions it is capable of speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Dorian Griffith, Driver and Team Principle commented, “We are very excited to be continuing the family tradition that my parents started back in 1969. We have already generated a considerable amount of interest from potential sponsors. “

Dorian continued, “The boat has an excellent pedigree and has already won many races. As there are nine legs to the race there will be plenty of opportunity for a sponsor to ride aboard for an experience of a life time!”
