Police are hunting thieves who made off with a Fletcher 19 GTS from Portishead Quays Marina on 15 May

Police are hunting thieves who made off with a Fletcher 19 GTS Sportscruiser from Portishead Quays Marina on Monday 15 May.

The owner had dropped the boat off earlier that day for work to be carried out.

A member of staff at the marina later secured the boat in a compound on the marina site.

The worker recalls seeing a beaten up, metallic grey or silver 4 by 4 – possibly a Mitsubishi Shogun – driving around at the time.

At around 10.40pm, the Berth Master was alerted that a similar looking vehicle had hooked up to the Fletcher’s trailer and was removing the boat from the marina premises.

The compound’s padlock was later found to have been damaged.

At 11.30pm, the Berth Master was making a second check of the compound and saw the thieves at it again.

This time they were trying to make off with a RIB.

But before he could intervene, the thieves ran to two vehicles and drove off.

Police have now put out an appeal for anyone who may have seen a silver or grey 4 by 4 trailing a boat in the Portishead area on the evening of 15 May.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Portishead police on 0845 456000, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
