Honda finale in Douglas, IOM

Honda championship series draws to a close in IOM

The final two rounds of the Honda Formula 4-Stroke championships off Douglas, IOM, over the weekend resulted in defending 225hp champions, Gavin Parsonage and Libby Nathan, retaining the title for a second year aboard Negotiator.

Despite stopping less than two hundred meters from the finish with a broken throttle cable, their points score after winning two earlier rounds together with high placings in the remainder was sufficient to win the championship by a small margin.

“Winning the series two years running has been great, we now plan to move on and expand our powerboat racing careers in the 6 litre class. We have enjoyed racing with Honda and have made some fantastic friends. I will be sad to leave but our time has come and we wish all of the other competitors the best of luck in 2009,” said Gavin.

The lower powered 150hp championship was decided on Saturday. This went to Jak Cockman and Andy Phipps driving Drainstore.Com. They won the previous four rounds and their second placing in the opening Isle of Man contest produced sufficient points regardless of their Sunday result.

“We were over the moon when it was announced we had won the 150hp championship. All I can say is that we are going to have a huge party in Douglas tonight,” said Andy Phipps – Navigator of Drainstore.com.

The series now moves onwards and upwards for 2009 with an Awards Dinner to acknowledge the teams on the 1st November in Bristol. The Championship winning craft will then go on display at the Sail, Power and Watersports Show at Earls Court later that month.
