Huge donation for Sea Cadets

Sea Cadets have welcomed a massive donation which will enable them to procure a new training vessel. Earlier this year the Jack Petchey Foundation pledged a donation of £1 million, provided matching funds were raised by October.

An appeal was launched and that goal has now been reached. TS Jack Petchey, as the boat will be named, is expected to cost in the region of £2.5 million.

It will be broadly similar to the present Marine Society & Sea Cadets (MSSC) power training boat, the 24m long TS John Jerwood, but will be fitted with 16 berths rather than 12. The new boat will take two years to build, and it is anticipated that during her 25-year life span she will train more than 16,000 young people.
