Hundreds of boats are expected to throng the Solent on Saturday to watch the start of the first round-Britain powerboat race for 24 years. 49 powerboats will take part in the event, the first leg of which is from Portsmouth to Plymouth.

There will be two starts, one at 0930 and one at 1000, from a line extending from Southsea Castle to a Committee Boat 3 cables to the South. In the interests of safety all craft not participating in the race must keep well clear of the Holding Area, Start Line and the intended track.

The leading powerboats are expected to arrive back in the Solent from midday onwards on Monday 30 June.
