New lifeboat set for London

The RNLI will unveil its new Tamar class lifeboat at the London Boat Show

This is a sneak peek of the new Tamar class all-weather lifeboat the RNLI will be unveiling for the first time at the London boat Show.

At the show, there’ll be a chance to climb on board, speak to her designers and meet some of the volunteer crews set to pilot the new class.

The lifeboat will replace the old Tyne class boats introduced in 1981 and is capable of a top speed of 25 knots, compared to the Tyne’s 17.

Equipped with the latest in computer technology, “it represents a major step forward in lifeboat design”, the RNLI said.
