A £2.5 million order for a new training boat has been placed by the Marine Society & Sea Cadets. The 24m boat, to be named TS Jack Petchey, will be built by Bridgend Boat Co Ltd at their Mount Batten yard in Plymouth and is scheduled for completion in 2010.

During its estimated 25-year life, the boat will provide nearly 20,000 young people and adults with training in basic seamanship, engineering, electronics, communication, chart systems, and social skills. The design of the new vessel is very similar to the charity’s existing power-training boat, TS John Jerwood.
