Nine men have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling luxury yachts into Russia from the UK and Italy

Nine men have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling luxury yachts into Russia from the UK and Italy. Russia’s Federal Investigative Committee said that those detained are suspected of being members of an organised crime group which has been smuggling boats into the country since 2007.

A top Russian customs officer, officers and employees of Burevestnik Yacht Club, one of Russia’s leading boat importers, and Marine AG, are reported to be among those detained. Although the committee declined to name the men, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported that one was Andrei Lomakin, managing partner at Burevestnik Group and general director of Aston Martin Moscow.

Investigations continue, with searches being carried out at 15 premises.
