Red Funnel high speed jet open to spectators for race start
A unique opportunity will be available at the annual Cowes-Torquay-Cowes offshore powerboat race on Saturday August 29. The Red Funnel high speed catamaran chartered to start all classes of Lymington will be open to fare paying passengers.
This will be the first time in the 49 year history of the event that the spectators have been given the opportunity to be up among the fleet when the starting flag drops.
Due to growing congestion in the Solent it is now three years since local authorities have allow the race to flagged away from its traditional start line off the Royal Yacht Squadron. However the new location has proved extremely popular with competitors who now follow the start boat en-mass at planing speeds the fives odd miles down to Lymington.
Tickets for the Red Jet, available on a first come first serve basis, can be obtained from thebprc@tiscali.co.uk Passengers will embark from the Red Funnel ferry pontoon in West Cowes at 9.0am.
