Three boats targeted in finishing turf rivalry says Military



Military officials described Monday’s events when gunmen opened fire on fishing boats as fishing turf rivalry.

The incident, which left 15 dead and three injured, occurred off Sebago island, in Basilan, an area renowned for being a hotspot for kidnap-for-ransom groups.

According to the BBC’s News website, Regional Military spokesman Lt Col Randolph Cabangbang told the Agence France Presse news agency that the victims were fishing on another group’s waters.

In the same BBC report, a survivor of the incident told the police that they had been warned to stay away from the area the attack took place.

The victim, from the Basilan area, were on wooden fishing boats at the time, and were discovered by other fishermen in the area.

Police have identified several suspects involved, but according to our sources, no-one has been arrested.
