Pirate radio ship returns

Floating pirate radio broadcasts will return to the airwaves this Easter

Floating pirate radio broadcasts will return to the airwaves this Easter, but this time with the approval of the authorities. ‘Pirate BBC Essex’ has been established to mark the 45th anniversary of the launch of Radios Caroline, London, City and Atlanta, and will broadcast from a retired lightship.

Former Radio Caroline DJs Tony Blackburn, Roger Day, Johnnie Walker and Keith Skues, will take part in the broadcasts. They will no doubt be pleased to learn that, this time round, their radio ship will secured alongside Ha’penny Pier in Harwich rather than bouncing around the North Sea.

‘Pirate BBC Essex’ will broadcast from April 10-13 on BBC Essex frequencies, 95.3 and 103.5 FM.
