Poole – Cherbourg race cancelled

Lack of co-operation from French club and coastguard help demise

Round Britain race organiser. Mike Lloyd, who together with the British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) announced a new offshore race between Poole and Cherbourg at the end of May has been forced to cancel the event.

It appears that little co-operation has been received from the local club in Cherbourg and the French coastguard. Little interest from current competitors was another factor in making the decision.

It has also been announced that the Royal Motor Yacht Club which had plans to stage this year’s prestigious Needles Trophy as a traditional offshore race will instead now hold the event as a basic multi lap contest

The efforts of Mike Lloyd and the BPRC will now concentrate on ensuring that the inaugural Powerboat Ball in April and the Cowes Powerboat Festival in August take place. Priority will be given to ensure that the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race weekend will, once again, be a memorable one.
