Rescue spotters on the Thames

Help at hand to prevent boats sinking

River Canal Rescue has offered to help save unoccupied boats on the Thames from sinking after the Environment Agency advised owners to evacuate their vessels because of the extreme weather.

RCR spotters have been positioned on the banks of the Thames and will attempt to prevent an unoccupied boat sinking if it appears in trouble. They will need to act speedily as the EA’s health and safety rules forbid the recovery of a sunken vessel.

RCR has suggested that boaters leave their vessels tied to trees or posts as the flood waters won’t affect the ability to adjust mooring lines.

If anyone spots a boat in trouble contact RCR on 01785 785680 or visit www.rivercanalrescue.co.uk
