Restored WW2 motor boat handed over

A restored Royal Air Force 41½ft seaplane tender will be handed over to Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust this Saturday

A restored Royal Air Force 41½ft seaplane tender will be handed over to Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust this Saturday, 18 July. RAF boat number 1502 is the last of three historic former military boats to be passed on to the trust by the British Military Powerboat Trust (BMPT).

1502 was built in 1942, and was completely restored between 1999 and 2005. She will join the 64-year-old former Royal Navy Fast Motor Boat number 43957, which served aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal.

Richard Hellyer, a director of the BMPT, said, “We’re glad that these boats are going to have a permanent home. It is the beginning of an exciting future for them with the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust.”
