The Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s (RNLI) membership recently celebrated reaching its 40,000th member and to mark the occasion they will be running a competition at the Schroders London Boat Show to see which one of their members can photograph the famous Offshore bear furthest from it’s original home at RNLI headquarters in Poole.

The RNLI will be handing out bears to new members who join at the London Boat Show, although any member, new or existing, can enter the competition. All they need to do is take a picture of their bear at a recognisable foreign location and fill in an application form (available from the RNLI stand 60C at the show and on the RNLI website www.lifeboats.org.uk) and return it to the RNLI. The closing date for photographs is 11 February 2003, 40 days from the competition’s launch at the show.

Supporter recruitment manager, Natalie Ness commented; “Everyone always comments on how the Offshore bear manages to pop up everywhere so we thought about taking that one step further in celebrating our 40,000th member by seeing where the bear could end up around the world in 40 days. We are hoping that some Offshore members will have trips planned or they could send their bear on holiday to friends or family living abroad to be photographed. A prize of a branded RNLI Leatherman Wave Tool will be offered to the winner.”
