RNLI crew join Penzance line-up

Penlee lifeboat crew give seal of approval to Superstock powerboat race

The Penlee Lifeboat crew will be showcasing its lifesaving skills by treating visitors to the Penzance Grand Prix of the Sea to a dramatic sea rescue display on Saturday May 22nd.

The 26-strong Penlee Lifeboat crew, who are on permanent call, cover from Lizard to Mullion and occasionally even as far as France should they be requested by the coastguard.

Excited by being invited to join the action for the Penzance Grand Prix of the Sea, Patrick Harvey, Cox for the Penlee Lifeboat Crew, said: “All the guys can’t wait. Newlyn has the biggest fishing port in England and it’s going to be a huge event for Cornwall.

“Mounts Bay is a fantastic venue for sailing and windsurfing so an event with the profile of the Penzance powerboat race will be great for raising awareness of the location.”

Hoping for favourable weather conditions to ensure maximum safety for the racing, Harvey is keeping his fingers crossed that the southeasterly winds blow clear of Penzance without waves reaching a challenging six feet.
