Scottish competitor Libby Keir sent the crowds wild when she won her first ever race in the Honda Formula 4-Stroke championship on home waters at Largs.

Keir navigated for Team Raymarine in the 225hp class alongside top driver Shelley Jory on 29 May.

Strong winds forced organisers to cancel the first day’s racing over the spring bank holiday, but conditions improved to allow for some spectacular action off the Ayreshire harbour for the opening round of the 2005 season.

Team Raymarine led the 13-strong fleet from start to finish and Keir said afterwards: “We were nervous beforehand and the pressure was really on to prove ourselves.

“We took the lead and just held on. Shelley really pushed the boat, taking the corners as fast as she possibly could.”

In a gripping 150hp race Peter Kingsbury and Steven McCulley in Alsford Timber had a perfect start to their 2005 series, battling their way from third to first place.

The next rounds will be held in the Isle of Man on 25 and 26 June.
