Sunseeker Sales Group has announced its entry in to offshore racing
Sunseeker Sales Group has announced its entry into offshore racing and will make its debut in the P1 World Championship series at the British Grand Prix off Cowes over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 26-27). This initial race appearance heralds the group’s plan to enter next year’s entire Powerboat P1 World Championship.
The decision, by one of the world’s major production brands, to join this fast growing offshore racing category further extends the geographical spread of the championship beyond its traditional Italian base.
The Sunseeker Sales Group will compete in the SuperSport Class in Sunseeker Challenger – a race prepared version of its well known XS2000 sports model. With a pair of race proven Yanmar diesels, Sunseeker Challenger is extremely well placed to compete alongside the many leading boat and engine manufacturers in the championship line-up.
Nathan Knight, CEO of KBL Powerboat Management Ltd, organiser of the Powerboat P1 World series, is delighted that Sunseeker Sales Group has joined the Championship.
“This is another highly significant development in the evolution of P1 and the culmination of 18 months of discussions. Sunseeker is a global lifestyle brand, renowned for the quality and performance of its products. Team Sunseeker will add a new dynamic to the Championship and we welcome their participation. It is another sign that major marine and non-marine brands understand and are attracted by the platform we are creating.”
Team Sunseeker comprises Team Manager Mel Wilby, who has a wealth of racing experience having competed in over 80 events since 1991; Driver Andy Wilby, who by trade is a McLaren technician and has a flair for powerboat racing who has competed as driver in every National race since 2000; Throttleman Gavin Brown, whose expertise lies in high speed powerboat rigging holding a powerboat racing licence since 2001 and Chief Engineer, Tony Davis, a marine engineer by trade with a specialist knowledge of marine engines, sea trial and navigation.
As one of the major powerboat brands to be competing in the Powerboat P1 World Championship, Sunseeker Sales Group Managing Director, Dominic Byrne, is very proud of the company’s representation in one of the fastest growing motorsports in Europe.
“Powerboat P1 combines spectacular action with the glamour of international powerboat racing and therefore offers the perfect platform for the Sunseeker brand, which is synonymous with lifestyle and performance.”
