Windy Chinook 44

Latest Windy boats IPS and three cabins

What they say”A long-awaited three-cabin 44ft sportscruiser, capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots with high fuel efficiency.”

What we sayWindy are discontinuing their 43 Typhoon to make way for this new 44 Chinook. There is also a new 48 Triton on the way to help plug the final gap up to its 58ft flagship.

The Chinook’s three separate cabins will be its main selling point – a master at the bow and two guest cabins amidships. The guest cabins can be twins, or
doubles with one enormous bed stretching wall-to-wall. Similarly enticing, however, is the prospect of Windy’s renowned seakeeping coupled with Volvo IPS. We can’t wait to test this boat on the water.

Elsewhere, it appears to be business as usual for Windy, and that’s no bad thing. The designers have kept the exterior styling clean and simple – nothing outlandish, but the pointy looks and relatively slim beam are familiar Windy traits that give clues to its sporting intent.

Inside, the Chinook bears the practical marks of its military namesake, albeit with an added dose of style and luxury. Hand-crafted teak and copious large opening portholes dominate below decks. There is a huge U-shaped seating arrangement in the cockpit, as well as a small dinette below decks. The smart brown duotone of the helm seats makes for a contemporary feel, while the helm itself looks modern but leaves room for all manner of gadgets. The boat is being launched at the Düsseldorf show in January.
