Botnia Targa 44

Botnia Targa 44 - the perfect driver's boat

What is it? IPS-powered centre-wheelhouse five-berth cruiser.

Worth seeing because: This boat is the IPS version of the sterndriven Botnia Targa 42 that made its mark in the recent Round-Britain Powerboat Race as one of only two entrants to complete every leg – even the gale-blighted one that was cancelled.

Tested by us at the Finnboat show this summer, it is quite a step up on even the 42. Superbly engineered and finished, the 44 is the perfect driver’s boat. Fantastic helm ergonomics, great visibility and offshore KAB seats make helming in the rough a pure joy, and when the sun beckons, the compact flybridge is a great place to be. And it’s famed hull can maintain planing speeds when other boats have to back off: we were lucky enough to be caught out in a strong Force 6 with 11 people on board, and experienced for ourselves this boat’s formidable capabilities.

Good engine access and enclosed wide side decks make maintenance and movement in all conditions both safe and realistic. Three berths aft, in two cabins plus heads, are separated from a forward double ensuite by a wheelhouse saloon.
