The 2011 Motor Boat of the Year Award winners
Garmin Outstanding Service Award
Winner: Val Wyatt
Flybridge above 55ft
On cruising boats typically costing upwards of a million pounds, the judges look for a no-expense-spared
feel coupled to the luxurious home-from-home comforts that make life onboard a genuine pleasure, however long the vacation.
Winner: Monte Carlo Yachts 76
Flybridge below 55ft
These boats may be called upon to function as weekend cottages or much longer term family cruisers, so the judges look for versatile accommodation coupled to practical cruising comforts, alongside sound handling for longer forays.
Winner: Sealine F42
Sportscruisers above 45ft
These boats have to have it all: glamour, good handling and performance, and exemplary deck spaces that satisfy the needs of cruising types or day-trippers. The judges also reward brave design and new ideas that
influence the marketplace.
Winner: Fairline Targa 58 GT
Highly Commended: Sunseeker Portofino 48
Sportscruisers below 45ft
The judges look for a demanding combination of style, practicality, handling and performance, and a well-judged balance between the spaces above and below-decks. This challenging package has to be served up at the right price.
Winner: Beneteau Monte Carlo 42
Highly Commended: Atlantis Verve 36
Trawler yacht and aft cabin
Impressive accommodation and generous stowage are key elements here, but the judges also look for the solid rough-weather seakeeping and sound engineering necessary to undertake long-legged cruising with minimum worry.
Winner: Marex 370 ACC
Wheelhouse and Walkaround
These uber-practical boats often undertake far more intrepid voyages than their size suggests. They need to be exemplary driver’s boats in any conditions, be hard as nails, and keep their crew safe and snug in any weather.
Winner: Greenline 33
Highly Commended: Jeanneau NC11
Steel and Inland
Leisurely cruising normally means long periods onboard with plenty of rubbernecking, so the judges look for comfortable space-to-spare interiors, comprehensive inventories, and an unimpeded view out to
watch the world go by.
Winner: Privateer Trawler 52
Winner: Trophy 2203CC
Highly Commended: Williams Turbojet 505
Performance and superboat
Winner: Goldfish 29 RIB
Highly Commended: Windy Blackbird
The Custom Yacht section is the broadest church of all. Here the judges are
looking for boats which most successfully satisfy their target audience, but also for innovation and ground breaking ideas on styling and propulsion and accommodation.
