Craig Bailey won the Newcastle F1 Powerboat Grand Prix on Newcastle Harbour in grand style, but not before getting pushed all the way by a young driver who may be the driver to one day take over the mantle from Bailey. SydneyÕs Rhys Coles was 2nd overall in the final and finished 3rd for the day on overall points.

Mother Nature threw up a challenge for the teams that arrived in pits when strong southerly winds forced officials to change the course and keep the boats as close to the shoreline as possible. Conditions were relatively calm close in but a closer inspection of the water in the middle of the harbour confirmed what all the drivers suspected, it was rough on the back straight and wind gusts strong enough to flip the boats over backwards were ominously present.

However, Bailey triumphed after the winds died down sufficiently to pave the way for an exciting and extremely even-matched race. He now leads the championship with only 1 round to go, Evans and Coles are close but will they be able to stop the master winning a 7th National Title?
