Berthon is Medium Employer of the Year

Lymington yard win prestigious award

The Berthon Boat Company based in Lymington, Hampshire, has been named Medium Employer of the Year at the 2009 Apprenticeship Awards.

Run by the National Apprenticeships Service, the awards celebrate the achievements of apprentices and their employers.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Rugby World Cup winner Matt Dawson and his Strictly Come Dancing dance partner Lilia Kopylova, and was designed to celebrate the success of apprenticeships throughout England.

Lymington-based Berthon Boat Company also saw success at the BMF Training Awards earlier this year, where the company was named winner of the BMF Company Learning and Development Award.

Brian May, Managing Director at Berthon says: “Our business wouldn’t survive without apprentices and in these difficult times the Government support we receive is vital to enable us to continue offering Apprenticeship places.

“Whilst we fully support the Apprenticeship programme and have doubled our intake this year I am especially pleased that we have twelve further places to provide more opportunities for supply line businesses to commence training in the marine industry from next year.”

Sarah Dhanda, BMF Director of Business Development, says: “As members of the British Marine Federation (BMF), I have a close working relationship with the team at Berthon.

“They thoroughly deserve this award, and all the previous attention they have been receiving as a result of this exemplary apprenticeship scheme. We are delighted that the marine industry is being rewarded for its excellence in the training sector.”
