British Motor Show 2010 cancelled

The 2008 show featured a heavy boating presence

The British Motor Show at ExCeL has been cancelled next year due to the recession.

The show featured a significant boating presence in 2008 including premium brands such as Sunseeker.

The news will be a disappointment to the British Marine Federation, who were hoping to boost boat sales and participation by exposure to a wider market.

The July dates of the show meant the thousands of visitors could experience boats on the water in the sun, something visitors to the January London Boat Show at ExCeL rarely see.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) say: “The global credit crunch has placed the automotive sector under unique pressure and has created a level of uncertainty that deters manufacturers from committing to large-scale, international events.”

They stressed the move was not permanent and a British motor show would return when the economy allowed.
