The British Powerboat Racing Club (BPRC) plans to expand in 2009 by concentrating on long distance offshore races. The full programme has yet to be agreed with the RYA but the proposed calendar is follows.

June 2009* 1,100 mile 6 day race in the Mediterranean

The highly successful Round Britain Race and the re-emergence of the prestigious Cowes Torquay Cowes Race in 2008 has renewed interest from other leading offshore racing clubs. The BPRC hope to see the famous “Needles Trophy” being staged once again by the Poole based Royal Motor Yacht Club in July while another long distance race is also being planned in September 2009 by UKOBA.

This has been welcomed by those interested in reviving genuine offshore racing. Great Britain is now not only leading the way in long distance racing it is also encouraging other countries in Europe to plan similar events. This includes a possible revival of the Venice to Monte Carlo last held more than a decade ago.
