End of the Earthrace?

Are the New Zealanders about to chuck in the towel?

After a fatal collision and an ongoing series of problems with their boat and engine set-up, are the Earthrace team about to retire from their Round-the-World Record attempt?

A statement on their website reads: “Earthrace is presently en route to Singapore. Email and phone communications are difficult with the boat and so the Captain’s Blogs will be updated as soon as possible.

“Earthrace will be issuing a press release in Singapore outlining what it intends to do from here regarding the record attempt.”

The boat is currently 4820nm behind the record pace of Cable & Wireless Adventurer, having covered 13,100nm by day 56 of the attempt. The record stands at 75 days and Earthrace originally aimed to make it round in 65 days.
