Fairline is taking the unusual step of launching its latest boat, the Targa 48 Open, at a car event.

The Oundle yard’s latest sportscruiser will be officially unveiled this week at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

James Robinson, sales director at Fairline, said: “The Festival of Speed is a showcase for decades of engineering excellence and we are proud to be premiering another iconic example of great British manufacturing in such good company.

Hull number one arrived at the show via the East Coast, where it underwent sea trials. You can see some great aerial footage of the trials on MBY’s Facebook page.

This is Fairine’s first new boat for some time, so expectations are high for this Open version, and the two models that will follow it – a 48 Gran Turismo and flybridge Squadron 48.

This first boat is powered by twin 435hp IPS600s, which should see it hitting around 32-33 knots flat out.

We managed to grab some time with it off the east coast this month, and you can read the world’s first report on the boat in our September issue.
