A prototype Vector powerboat capsized near Hamble Point on a test run this morning, sparking a Coastguard rescue mission
Malcolm Crease from Vector told MBY that the vessel involved was a prototype model, capable of speeds of up to 110mph. Engineers suspect that a mechanical failure caused the boat to flip into the cardinal marker.
“It was on its final approach, with Peter Dredge at the helm, one of the safest pairs of hands in the sport, so I’m sensing a technical failure of some kind,” Malcolm added.
Vector is best known for its recent tie-up with Martini Racing. Last year’s Monaco Grand Prix saw the unveiling of the latest Vector Martini raceboat, which went on to win the 2014 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race with Peter Drudge at the helm (pictured above).
