Open charity fishing competition from Poole

Motorboaters invited to take part

Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club are organising their biggest ever open competition on 2 December.

The competition, as always, focuses on Best Specimen Fish, helping ensure future stocks. Only fish of at least 50% of the Wessex Specimen size are allowed on the scales and only one fish of a particular species can be weighed in.

A spokesman said: “Some of our more resourceful anglers manage to catch and then later release at the weigh station at Baiter Park on the shore of the harbour. It is quite a spectacle seeing a 15lb Undulate Ray swim off or a 40lb Conger Eel head to a new home in the harbour.”

The competition is well supported by local companies, marine electronics manufacturers, major tackle manufacturers and online stores.

“Prizes from our sponsors run well into thousands of pounds worth, making a very exciting event for competitors. In addition, cash prizes, limited only by the number of entrants, will be running to well over £1,000.”

Poole Bay Small Boat Angling Club is a non profit making club and previous events have seen a substantial charitable donation made to a local cause.

There will also be a charity auction/ raffle for equipment put forward by Penn. First class rods and reels have been supplied and all money raised will be donated to Myeloma UK.
