Free harbourside festival: face-painting to new boats

The south coast’s biggest free boating and watersports event, Poole Afloat, takes place this weekend, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June, between 10am and 5pm.

The event takes place on Poole Quay and Harbourside Park in Dorset with new and used boats and RIBs, chandlery, clothing and watersports accessories.

Now in its third year, the two-day event, sponsored by Rockley Holiday Park, is expected to attract thousands of visitors and has become a popular family day out for those in the area.

The are Try-A-Boat sessions, face-painting, competitions and a host of other top entertainment – all for free.

James Sydenham, organiser of Poole Afloat, said: “Poole Afloat promises non-stop entertainment, with attractions for adults and children alike, exhibits, competitions and demonstrations, as well as a great range of sports boats and RIBs on display. The event is about getting involved, and if people do feel a bit water-shy they can always watch others get wet and enjoy the land-based entertainment. We look forward to welcoming families to enjoy an abundance of free activities on offer!”
