Royal Southern member to appear in Coronation Street

Incredible auction lots raise loads for Help For Heroes

The Royal Southern Yacht Club raised an astonishing £56,0000 through a dinner in aid of the charity Help For Heroes.

The dinner was held at the club’s waterside base at Hamble on 18 April with auctioneer Nick Bonham taking bids as paintings went under the hammer.

Other auction lots included a day on a Royal Naval ship, holidays in Cape Town and the South of France and a walk-on part in Coronation Street.

Quite a few people liked the idea of visiting the Rovers Return, and the Coronation Street lot alone fetched £1,200.

There was also a performance by 16-year-old singer Natalie Grace, who is one of the UK’s youngest artists to achieve a platinum disc, which she did when she was just 13.

Natalie’s rendition of Heroes brought her a standing ovation.

More than 250 people attended the black tie event, including Bryn and Emma Parry, the founders of Help For Heroes.

Club Commodore John Beardsley said: “It was one of the most memorable nights in the Club’s history. A great success, noted not only by the amount of money raised, but also by the smiles on people’s faces as they left.”
