Windrush to be sold

EA: She's become a luxury we can't afford.

Windrush, the Environment Agency’s (EA) fifth harbourmaster’s launch, is to be sold and not replaced.

Eileen McKeever, the Agency’s Thames region waterways manager, said emotions were running high at the EA, with half of the staff wanting to keep it, and half wanting to get rid of the boat.

“But I think we made the right decision in the end,” McKeever told MBM. “Given our current financial situation, it’s become a luxury we can’t afford.”

Windrushwill soon embark on its last tour of duty – a three-week engineering inspection of the Thames.

As to its fate, no one knows. “I imagine it will end up as a charter boat,” McKeever said.
