World’s largest ever ice-breaker

This is one big beast.

The world’s largest ever ice-breaker has been launched in the Swedish port of G?teborg, and is set for her first voyage bringing oil from Russia to the UK.

Stena Arctica weighs around 117,100 tons fully loaded, equivalent to around 4,000 Sealine T60s.

Built in South Korea, she has a length of 250m, beam of 44m and draft of 15.4m. She is heavily reinforced and can sail under her own power through 1 metre thick ice.

The ship will mainly transport Russian crude oil from the Gulf of Finland to the Continent and the UK.
