Zapcat racing breaks new ground in Scotland

Aberdeen to host championship round this weekend

The Zapcat Racing UK Championships comes back to Scotland this weekend (August 21-22) with the Aberdeen City Zapcat Grand Prix.

Amid waves usually intended for surfers off Aberdeen Beach, racers and their boats will compete for points towards the National, Team, Mixed, Rookie, City and Celtic Cup categories. Event partners Aberdeen City Council are confident seaside visitors will embrace the spectacle.

Lord Provost of Aberdeen Peter Stephen: “It is wonderful that the Zapcat Championship is coming to Aberdeen, this is a beautiful part of Scotland and our seafront is perfect for this type of exciting event.”

With the championship renowned as a highly entertaining race series, as well as one that respects and protects the areas it visits, the number of Zapcats in action in Aberdeen is set to be fewer than at previous Grand Prix’s following advice from local authorities, coastguard and conservation specialists.

Martin Jupp event eirector of Zapcat Racing says: “We’re heading further north than any previous UK Zapcat contest.”
